Another Biographical comedy that I have watched in preporation for my Masters dissertation is Eddie the Eagle. This follows the story of Michael Edwards, an olympic Ski Jumper for team GB.
This movie surprised me. I went into it with a bit of a worry that it wouldn't be any good or that it would be far too cheesy for my liking. However, it completely surpassed any and all of my expectations. Not only is the story funny, it is also heartwarming, emotional, and sweet, and it left me in a really good mood.
Taron Egerton, who plays the lead, is a fantastic actor, and this is clear in his performance. Every action, every line, and even every facial expression is perfect, representing Edwards in a way that makes him easily recognisable. I adored him in this role.
Beyond the acting, the pacing of this film worked incredibly. There was not a single moment where I felt bored, not where I felt as though the story was being rushed. They found the perfect balance and stuck to it. This can be quite difficult in Biographical films, as we have seen in some of the others that I've researched, and it is good to see someone finally doing it right.
Personally, I loved this film. It is so uplifting, in a way that only Eddie the Eagle could be, and just left me feeling really happy. I cannot recommend this movie enough.
